How to Update Your ODBC SQL Driver (5 Steps)

By TS Jordan

The open database connectivity (ODBC) structured query language (SQL) driver is the file that enables your computer to connect with, and talk to, all types of servers and database programs. Updating your ODBC SQL driver is necessary when the new version contains bug fixes for your product or when your old driver has started to show signs of corruption.

Step 1

Navigate to the Microsoft website and download the latest Microsoft data access center (MDAC) program. ODBC drivers can only be installed as part of a MDAC configuration.

Step 2

Save the file to your desktop.

Step 3

Double click on the downloaded file and click on the "Install" button.

Step 4

Click on the location of your hard drive containing the new ODBC SQL driver when prompted during the installation.

Step 5

Reboot your computer when the autoinstaller completes.
