How to Unlock the F8 Key on a Dell Laptop
By Daniel Hatter
Because of the small amount of space available, many smaller-screened Dell laptops come with a special key known as the "Function," or "Fn" key. The purpose of this key is to double the functions of multiple keys, most commonly the F1 through F12 keys. On some Dell laptops, the F1 through F12 keys are locked from use to give way to more commonly accessed commands and program shortcuts. However, unlocking an "F" key, such as F8, is not difficult.
Press and hold the "Fn" key on your laptop's keyboard. This key will usually be shaded blue and is located in the bottom row.
Press the F8 key on your keyboard while still holding the "Fn" key. This will have unlocked the F8 key.
Repeat steps 1 and 2 as necessary to unlock any other "F" keys you wish to use.
