How to Unfreeze a SanDisk Sansa

by Andrew Smith

The Sansa is a portable media player made by SanDisk. As with all portable media players, there may come a time when your Sansa freezes up for one reason or another. This can be incredibly frustrating. Fortunately, there are a handful of different methods you can use to unfreeze the player.

Wait for the battery in the Sansa to die completely. Once the battery is dead, you can plug the Sansa into your computer and download a firmware update for your particular model (see Resources below). You can also remove the battery from the Sansa if you want to speed up the process.

Plug the Sansa back into your computer. If the computer recognizes the device, the player should begin charging right away. This will unfreeze your Sansa.

Hold the power button down for roughly 10-20 seconds. The Sansa should turn off. Wait a few seconds and then turn the player back on.

Hold down the center button and the menu button at the same time. Do this for up to 30 seconds while watching the display screen.

Tip

  • check It's a good idea to download firmware updates for your Sansa after you have unfrozen the player. This will keep your player working properly and help to keep it from freezing again in the future.
