How to Get Sound From Skype

by Marie Cartwright

Skype isn't any good if you can't hear the person on the other end of the line. If you've never used Skype before, you might be having some trouble in getting your audio working. Even if you're new to making voice and video calls, configuring your Skype client to recognize your headset or speakers takes only a minute. When hooking up a new audio device, always make sure the volume on the device is turned up.

1

Plug your speakers or headphones into your computer.

2

Launch your Skype desktop client. Open the "Tools" menu at the top of the Skype window. Click "Options." This will open a separate window.

3

Select the "Audio Settings" tab on the right sidebar. Find the "Speakers" section. Open the drop-down menu and select your speakers or headset. Once your audio device has been selected, press the green "Play" button to the right of the drop-down menu. If your device is plugged in correctly, you should hear the Skype ringtone. Click "Save."
