How to Search for Counties by Addresses

by Ireland Wolfe

In the past, when you knew an address but needed to find out which county it was in, you had to study a map. But now this information is readily available online and can be quickly found with a few guidelines. The U.S. Census Bureau has an online tool that can help you locate counties by ZIP codes or town names. You can also use search engines to find counties based on addresses.

Go to the U.S. Census Bureau's website.

Input ZIP code, if known. You can also write in a town or city name.

Select the state and hit "Go."

Wait for the results. The U.S. Census Bureau will provide the county name.
