Why Is ScanSnap Manager Crossed Out?by Alexis Rohlin
ScanSnap Manager is a program that is used to run the Fujitsu ScanSnap scanner, which looks similar to a fax machine. When a computer does not recognize the ScanSnap scanner it causes the ScanSnap Manager tray icon to be crossed out on the screen. This problem occurs when a user logs in as a Guest user, when the Windows 7 log in window is on-screen for a few minutes and when the cover of the scanner is opened while the scanner is turned on.
ScanSnap Manager Update
If you are using the scanner, stop the scan or cancel it. Start to fix the ScanSnap Manager by downloading the updated version of the ScanSnap drivers from Fujistu.com or by clicking "Start," selecting "All Programs" and then clicking "ScanSnap Manager." Click "Online Update" to have your computer search for the update and automatically download it. Close any apps that you have open or are running on your PC. Double-click on the ScanSnap EXE file you just downloaded and install it. Restart your computer. If the ScanSnap update installed properly, the ScanSnap Manager will no longer be crossed out on your computer.
Windows 7 Compatibilty
Another cause for the ScanSnap Manager to be crossed out is attempting to run an outdated version of the ScanSnap Manager on Windows 7. Download the ScanSnap Manager update from Fujistu.com. Log in to your Windows 7 user that has administrator privileges or permissions. Close any apps or programs that you are running on your PC and stop the scanner if it is scanning. Double-click the Scan Snap Manager update to install the program. When it is done installing click "Start | Control Panel | Programs | Programs and Features | ScanSnap Manager." Look under "Version" to ensure that it is "V3.1L29(Windows 7)" as this is the version that is needed to use the ScanSnap Manager on your Windows 7 computer.
Mac users may encounter the same problem as a Windows 7 user when attempting to run ScanSnap Manager. Resolve this by updating the ScanSnap software on a Mac. Click on the ScanSnap icon located in the dock. Select "Help" and then click "Online Update." Follow the on-screen prompts to download the updated Mac ScanSnap software. Restart your computer. This should stop the ScanSnap Manager from being crossed on out your dock.
Update Installation Problems
If ScanSnap Manager will not update properly, uninstall the program and turn off the ScanSnap Scanner. Download the ScanSnap Manager Setup Program from Fijitsu.com. Double-click the downloaded setup program. The file is a zipped file -- if it does not automatically unzip for you, use a program such as WinZip to unzip it. Once it is finished unzipping, you will see that it has made a folder with a file called "Setup.exe" in it. Double-click on "Setup.exe" to begin installing the program. Update the ScanSnap Manager and then turn on the scanner. Your computer should now recognize the scanner and ScanSnap Manager should no longer be crossed out.
