If your Garmin Nuvi GPS has frozen or just isn't working properly, resetting it will usually fix the issue. The reset operation will clear the cache and temporary memory files from the GPS, which in most cases will restore it to normal working order. If you merely wish to reset the trip data it has recorded, you also have the ability to do that. You can perform a system reset at any time and a trip data reset can be accomplished from the map screen, the normal screen shown during use.

Reset the Nuvi

Locate the Power button on your Garmin Nuvi GPS. Its position varies by model, but it's usually on the top right or left edge.

Press down the power button for 10 seconds. The screen goes dark before 10 seconds is up, but keep the button down until the full 10 seconds has passed.

Wait an additional 10 to 15 seconds and then press and release the power button once to restart the device.

Reset Trip Data

Tap the "Speed" button on the map screen of your Garmin Nuvi GPS and then touch the button with the icon of three horizontal bars.

Tap the "Reset Trip Data" button to reset the trip data. Tap the "Reset Max. Speed" button to reset your highest recorded speed, or press the "Reset Trip B" button to reset the GPS odometer.

Press the "Back" button to return to the map screen.
