How to Reset My Dell Laptop to an Earlier Dateby C. Taylor
Your Dell laptop's Windows 7 operating system allows you to reset your computer back to an earlier time with the integrated System Restore feature. This feature sets restore points before significant events, such as software or update installations. This enables you to restore your system to a previously working state, should hardware or software corruption occur that prevents normal function.
Click the "Start" button, then "All Programs," then "Accessories," then "System Tools" and then "System Restore."
Click "Next" on the opening screen of the System Restore window.
Click a listed restore point. If you need to go back further than the points currently displayed, check "Show more restore points" at the bottom, right of the System Restore window. Click "Next" to continue.
Click "Finish" on the last screen, which reads "Confirm your restore point." Your Dell laptop will then reboot to the state it was in at the selected restore time.
- close When you perform a system restore, any drivers, updates or software you installed after the selected restore time will cease to function and require re-installation.
