How to Replace a Laptop Keyboard Key on an Alienware M17x

by Michael Wallace

The Alienware M17x is a laptop computer designed primarily for video game use. Many of the components on the computer are the same as those on a standard laptop. The keyboard, for example, is similar to a keyboard on any other laptop. That means if a key pops off, you can replace it quickly and be back gaming in no time.

Turn the laptop key upside down. Notice a plastic frame in the inside of the key.

Use the tip of your screwdriver to pop the plastic frame out of the underside of the key.

Fit the plastic frame over the empty key space on the Alienware laptop. Make sure the hooks on the key space connect to the hinges on the corners of the frame.

Fit the key back over the space and press firmly down until it snaps in place.
