How to Reformat an RCA Opal MP3 Player

by Andrew Smith

The Opal is a portable mp3/video player made by RCA. If you have purchased a used Opal, are experiencing problems with the Opal or you simply want to erase the data on the device, you may want to consider reformatting your Opal. RCA has made doing so very easy as the company by setting up a specific website for Opal users. Once you go to this website, you can download firmware that allows you to reformat a RCA Opal mp3 player.

Visit the RCA Opal download website (see Resources below).

Click the "Opal" firmware link for your particular Opal mp3 player. Download the firmware.

Open up the firmware installation. An "Update Device" box will then appear on your screen.

Make sure there is a check mark next to the "Format Data Area" option. If there isn't, you will need to click on the box to put a check mark in the box.

Plug your RCA Opal mp3 player into your computer.

Click the "Start" tab at the bottom of the "Update Device" box. A smaller box will then come up on the screen, informing you that you are about to format the Opal. Click "Yes" in this box to finish reformatting the Opal.
