How to Recover a Lost Password in a Dell Computer

by TS Jordan

Lost passwords can render your computer fairly useless until the issue is resolved, leaving you staring down the barrel of a potentially expensive repair bill. Circumventing a lost password on your Dell computer can be done by attempting to use the password removal feature inherent in your Dell computer. Your computer is set up with a special account that can disable the password, enabling you to access your computer and recover it.

Restart the computer.

Tap "F8" while the computer is restarting.

Select the option to enter "Safe Mode."

Click on the "Administrator" account. This is a non-password protected account on your Dell that can be used to troubleshoot the issue.

Open "Start," click on "Run," type in "control userpasswords2" and press "Enter."

Uncheck the box next to "Users must enter a username and password."

Restart your computer, log back into your original account, and change your password.
