How to Remove the Cap of a Toslink Cable

By David Lipscomb

Optical (or Toslink) cables come prepackaged with small plastic caps over the delicate lens to protect against scratches and chipping. These caps must be removed before insertion into an optical port on a digital device. These caps may be disposed of, or retained for future storage of the cable.

Examine the end of the optical cable. Note the presence of a translucent plastic cap covering the lens.

Grip the very end of the plastic cap with your fingers. Pull straight back to remove the cap.

Insert the optical cable into the connected devices. Push the cable in until it clicks into position.

Slide the plastic caps back over the tips of the optical cable for protection during storage or shipping.
