An Advanced Stream Redirector (ASX) file is a particular file type that works well with Windows Media Player. If you have a Mac OSX operating system, you can download Windows Media Player for Mac for free. ASX is a metafile that contains data about an Advanced Streaming Format (ASF) file. When you open an ASX file in Windows Media Player, it simply gives a text command to start streaming the ASF file it represents.

Open Windows Media Player.

Click "File," and in the drop down menu, click "Open File." Highlight the ASX file you wish to play, and double-click on the file.

Press "Play" after the file is fully loaded into the media player.
