How to Open Mogg Files

By Stephen Lilley

A .MOGG computer file is a special type of computer audio file that contains more than one audio track in a single file. Typically these files are used with the computer program "Rock Band," and a single file can contain information pertaining to the vocal, guitar, bass and drum tracks of a single song. If you want to open any of the .MOGG files on your computer, you're going to need to use a special program that can understand them. These programs are called "Audio Editors," and are capable of reading and displaying the information contained in these complicated files.

Step 1

Use Audacity (see References). Audacity is a freeware audio editor that is capable of reading these complicated .MOGG audio files. Once you have downloaded and installed Audacity on your computer, open the program using the icon on your desktop or in the "Start" menu of your computer. Click "File" and then "Open" and then select the .MOGG file you'd like to open. All of the .MOGG file's multiple audio tracks will display in the main program window.

Step 2

Use Free Audio Editor 2010 (see References). Free Audio Editor 2010 is a freeware audio editor that is capable of reading these complicated .MOGG audio files. Once you have downloaded and installed Free Audio Editor 2010 on your computer, open the program using the icon on your desktop or in the "Start" menu of your computer. Click "File" and then "Open" and then select the .MOGG file you'd like to open. All of the .MOGG file's multiple audio tracks will display in the main program window.

Step 3

Use Power Sound Editor (see References). As with the other two programs mentioned in this article, Power Sound Editor is a program that allows you to edit the tracks of an audio file--which means that it is more than capable of displaying the audio information contained in .MOGG files. Click "File" and then "Open" and then select the .MOGG file you'd like to open. All of the .MOGG file's multiple audio tracks will display in the main program window.
