Microsoft Access is a relational database application that is included in the Microsoft Office suite of professional software. By default, the 2010 version of Microsoft Access saves database files in the .accdb format. However, you can convert and export your database into other formats to work with it in different applications. For example, the .mdb format is used by earlier versions of Access and the .csv format is a text file that you can open in any word processing or spreadsheet application.

Step 1

Launch the Microsoft Access 2010 application from the "All Programs" list in the Start menu.

Step 2

Open the database file that you want to convert to a different format.

Step 3

Save the database file in the .accdb format by going to the "File" menu in the upper-left corner of the screen and choosing the "Save As" command. Then enter a name for the file, choose where you want to save it, and press the "Save" button.

Step 4

Convert the database file to the .mdb format by going to the "File" menu and choosing the "Save & Publish" command. Highlight the option labeled "Access 2002 - 2003 Database (*.mdb)" and press the "Save As" button. Then enter a name for the file, choose where you want to save it, and press the "Save" button.

Step 5

Convert the database file to the .csv format by going to the "External Data" tab at the top of the window and clicking on the "Text File" button in the "Export" section. Press the "Browse" button, choose where you want to save the file, and add the ".csv" extension to the end of the file path. Then press "Save" and "OK" to export the database content as a .csv file.
