How to Get Music on My iPod Nano for Freeby Andrew Tennyson
ITunes is the native program used to transfer music onto your iPod Nano. You can also use the program to import into your iTunes library free music you've downloaded or music you already own on CD. If you don't have a copy of iTunes on your computer, you can download it for free from Apple's website.
Get Free Music
A number of websites offer free and legal downloads of music. These include Free Music Archive, Noisetrade and Jamendo. Once you've downloaded music from these sites, use the Add to Library tool in iTunes to import the music into your library.
Although iTunes seems to be an ecosystem unto itself, it's not. You can import other audio files already on your computer instead of buying them again in iTunes. If you own music on CD, you can import that into iTunes as well.
Downloading and sharing unauthorized or copyrighted content is illegal.
Import Music Into iTunes
Import Existing Music Files
Click File on the main menu in iTunes and select Add File to Library or Add to Library. Which option is available on the File menu depends on the version of iTunes you're using.
Select the music you want to import and then click the Open button to add it to your library.
ITunes is natively compatible with a variety of audio file formats, including AAC, MP3, AIFF, Apple Lossless, WAV and AA. If the file you're attempting to import isn't on this list, iTunes converts it to one of these formats so that it plays properly on your iPod.
Import Music from CDs
Open iTunes and then insert the CD into your computer's optical drive.
Click Yes to confirm the import of the CD contents into your library.
If iTunes doesn't prompt you to import the CD contents, click the CD button located near the top of the program.
Place check marks next to the songs you want to import and then click the Import CD button.
Choose your import settings and then click OK to import the selected songs. Choose the highest audio quality offered.
