How to Get Music on My iPod Nano for Free

by Andrew Tennyson

ITunes is the native program used to transfer music onto your iPod Nano. You can also use the program to import into your iTunes library free music you've downloaded or music you already own on CD. If you don't have a copy of iTunes on your computer, you can download it for free from Apple's website.

Get Free Music

A number of websites offer free and legal downloads of music. These include Free Music Archive, Noisetrade and Jamendo. Once you've downloaded music from these sites, use the Add to Library tool in iTunes to import the music into your library.

Although iTunes seems to be an ecosystem unto itself, it's not. You can import other audio files already on your computer instead of buying them again in iTunes. If you own music on CD, you can import that into iTunes as well.

  • Downloading and sharing unauthorized or copyrighted content is illegal.
