Because of the small resource footprint used by Wordpad, some individuals prefer it to Microsoft Word for everyday use. In addition, all Windows operating systems through Windows 7 provide Wordpad for free, whereas Microsoft Word must be purchased separately. However, Wordpad does have limitations, one of which is that it doesn't easily allow you to insert page breaks. With a little know-how, you can add page breaks, using software already on all Windows operating systems.

Adding a Page Break to a Wordpad Document

Create the document in Wordpad and save it in Rich Text Format. This is usually the default option when saving in Wordpad.

If it is not the default option, simply go into your File menu and click on \"Save As.\" One of the options will be for Rich Text Format. Save the file in Rich Text Format.

Close the document. Make sure you make a note of its location when closing it. For many people, the simplest way to do this is to save the file to the desktop.

Open the document using your Notepad program. You can either access it directly from Notepad, or you can right-click on the document and access Notepad by clicking on \"Open With\" and then clicking Notepad.

This will open the document and display all the Rich Text Format tags. These are hidden in Wordpad but visible in Notepad. Don't worry about having to change any of those tags.

Locate the section where you wish to place a page break.

When you locate the section, simply type in: \page This will insert the Rich Text Format tag needed for a page break.

Close and save the program using your Notepad program.

Reopen the document in Wordpad.

Go into your File menu, and access Print Preview. There should now be a page break where you inserted the Rich Text Format tag.

Tips

If you open your document in Wordpad after you have added the page break, you will find a blank line. If you copy that blank line by using Ctrl+C, it will place that blank line code on your clipboard. By using Ctrl+V, you can now add a page break anywhere in that document, without having to exit the Wordpad program.

By using a search engine, you can find various free programs that will allow you to download programs that enhance Wordpad. Most of these enhancements will add features, such as Page Break and Spell Checking.
