How to Get a Large Font Size for a Poster

by Filonia LeChat

An attention-grabbing poster needs a legible headline, a large phrase or sentence giving viewers an instant idea of what the poster is about. To get those large letters requires an increase in the default font or text used when making the poster.

Using Paint

Open Paint, click the Paint button in the top-left corner of the screen and select "Open." Browse to the poster file and double-click the file name to open the image in the Paint workspace.

Click the "Text" tool, which looks like an "A" on the "Tools" section of the ribbon/toolbar at the top of the screen.

Click the poster, which opens a small tab called "Text." Pull down the font size menu, located under the font drop-down menu, and select a large font number.

Using Word

Open Word, click the "File" tab and select "Open." Navigate to the Word document with the poster and double-click the file name. The document opens in a new Word window.

Highlight the headline already on the poster or type the words for the headline and highlight the new words.

Click the "Home" tab at the top of the screen. Pull down the font size menu, located in the "Font" section of the ribbon/toolbar at the top of the screen. Select a large font from the drop-down and the text changes to the bigger font.

Using Photoshop

Open Photoshop, click the "File" menu and click "Open." Browse to the poster file and double-click the image. The poster opens on the Photoshop workspace.

Pull down the "Window" menu and select "Layers." The "Layers" palette opens on the bottom-right corner of the screen.

Double-click a text layer, symbolized by a "T" in a white box on the layer. The text becomes highlighted on the poster and a font toolbar opens at the top of the screen. Pull down the size menu, in the middle of the toolbar to the right of the black "T" and select a large font size. The text changes to the new size.
