Perhaps you wish to track the movement of your children, an employee or an untrustworthy husband. Maybe you just want to know where your car is if it is stolen or impounded. Whatever the case, it is easier than ever to purchase an inexpensive GPS tracking device, install it and monitor its movement on the Internet. These devices are self-contained and can operate for several days on a single battery charge. In addition, most are weather resistant, so they can be placed anywhere on the vehicle, inside or out.

Install It Under the Car

The easiest thing to do is to place the GPS device on the bottom of the car or truck that you wish to track. Most of the units that are designed for tracking vehicles come with a strong magnet that makes it easy to attach them to a car. The devices are also weather resistant so you don't need to worry about getting them wet. Make sure that it is not on an area that is so low that it might get hit by a speed bump and get knocked off. Also make sure that it is not in an area that is hot and might melt or damage the device. The inside of the bumper is also a good place to place the tracker, although you should make sure that there are no hide-a-key magnets attached to it first.

Install It Inside the Car

If you have access to the interior of the car, a good place to put a GPS device is underneath the seats or even better in the inner-paneling of the trunk. The charge on the devices can last up to 10 days, depending on the model you purchase. If you need them to last longer, purchase a GPS unit that is wired into the interior of the dashboard and receives its charge from a live wire within the car. These GPS units can go for several months without having to be taken out. Bear in mind that for this type of GPS device, you will need someone familiar with car stereo installations to put it in; it usually takes about 90 minutes to complete.

Install GPS on a Cell Phone

Another option is to install a tracking device on a cell phone. This has the added advantage of your being able to track someone once she leaves her vehicle. However it will require access to the person's mobile phone to install it. A couple of good programs that you might consider are FlexiSpy and MobileSpy.

Put the GPS on a Person

Some GPS devices are so small that they can literally fit into the palm of your hand. They are usually about the size of a pack of chewing gum, so they can easily be hidden inside of someone's purse or backpack. You simply switch the device on and it will begin transmitting the person's location.
