How to Install a Dell Inspiron 8600 Hard Drive
By Kyle Anderson
As is true of most computers, the Dell Inspiron 8600 laptop includes a hard drive for data storage. Over the life of the computer, this hard drive may become damaged or worn out, or may simply need to be replaced due to diminishing storage capacity. The hard drive on the Inspiron 8600 laptop is positioned in a location that is convenient to access should you want to install a new drive in the computer.
Step 1
Power down your Inspiron 8600 laptop and unplug it. Remove the battery so that you do not receive an electrical shock when working on the computer.
Step 2
Remove the screw holding the hard drive cover in place. The hard drive cover is the piece of plastic on the side of the computer that has a small nook for the microphone and headphone ports.
Step 3
Pull the Inspiron 8600's hard drive out of the side of the computer, and then put the new hard drive into the computer, pushing it firmly into place.
Step 4
Reattach the hard drive cover to the computer and fasten the screw that holds it in place.
Step 5
Insert the battery back into the computer and replace the power cord that you removed.
