Digital music, which is used in portable media players like the Zune and the iPod, has replaced physical media as the standard for personal entertainment. However, to enjoy your digital music devices fully, you'll probably want to upload your favorite songs and tracks from your CD collection. Uploading music to your computer is a very simple process and involved only a few simple steps.

Insert the CD into your computer's CD-ROM drive. If you are using a Windows computer, a pop-up window will appear with a list of choices. If you are using a Macintosh operating system, a window will pop up asking if you want to view the CD's contents with iTunes.

View the CDs Tracks using Windows Media Player (Windows) or iTunes (Mac).

Highlight the songs you want to upload by clicking on them. Note: in iTunes you will need to enable "Track" or "List" mode to select individual songs.

Select the "Rip music" function. In Windows Media Player, this function is found at the top right corner of the program. In iTunes, this function is found at the bottom right corner.

A pop-up window will appear when the selected tracks have been imported into your program of choice. Once you see this message, you can eject the CD and enjoy your music on the computer, or sync it with a portable media device.
