How to Hook Up an Infrared Wireless Remote Extender

by Dean Lee

An infrared wireless remote extender is useful when you want to use a remote control at a distance that exceeds the capabilities of the remote control device. The infrared wireless remote extender utilizes an infrared transmitter and receiver. The transmitter and receiver communicate using amplified signals that extend the infrared signal from the remote control to the infrared device you want to control.

Place the infrared (IR) receiver near the device that you want to control, preferably in front of the IR sensor on the device.

Place the IR transmitter near the area where you will be using your remote control.

Plug in both the receiver and transmitter.

Point the remote control at the transmitter and push a button to verify that the transmitter and receiver are communicating and that the desired device is being controlled.
