How to Fix the Webroot "Installation 103" Error

by Suvro Banerji

The Webroot "Installation 103" error occurs during Google Chrome browser installation. It takes place when a missing Windows component called "expand.exe" prevents Chrome from installing properly. You fix this error by first checking for "expand.exe" and then changing the location of your temporary folder. Note that you may need administrative rights to perform this task.

1

Access the Search charm and type "expand.exe" (without quotes here and throughout), right-click the file in the search results and choose "Open File Location."

2

Right-click the file when it appears in File Explorer and select "Copy."

3

Navigate to the following location: "C:\Windows\system32," right-click and select "Paste" to paste the file to the "system32" folder.

4

Install Google Chrome. Go to the next step if you are still experiencing issues.

5

Press "Windows-R" to open the Windows Run window.

6

Type "C:\" without the quotes and press "Enter."

7

Click "File," point to "New" and select "Folder." Type a name for this folder, such as "test."

8

Navigate back to the "Run..." window.

9

Type "cmd.exe" and press "Enter" to launch Command Prompt.

10

Type "set TMP=C:\test" and press "Enter."

11

Type "start ChromeSetup.exe" and press "Enter" to install Google Chrome.
