How to Erase Files From a SanDisk Flash Drive

A SanDisk brand flash drive provides a convenient way to transport files from one device to another due to its solid state memory storage. You can erase files from a SanDisk flash drive by connecting it to a computer and using commands built into the operating system. The procedure is straightforward and will not cause any harm to the rest of the files on the flash drive or to the computer.

Erase File from a SanDisk Flash Drive On A Mac

Step 1

Plug the SanDisk flash drive into a USB port on the Mac. Wait for the icon of the flash drive to appear on the desktop.

Step 2

Double-click on the icon of the SanDisk flash drive to open its window on the desktop.

Step 3

Select the file that you want to erase from inside of the SanDisk flash drive's window.

Step 4

Drag the file to the "Trash' icon. Close the window by clicking the red button on its upper left corner. Right-click on the "Trash' icon. Select "Empty Trash" from the pop-up menu.

Step 5

Drag the icon of the SanDisk-brand flash drive to the "Trash" icon. Wait for the icon of the flash drive to disappear. Remove the flash drive from the USB port on the Mac.

Erase File from a SanDisk Flash Drive On A PC

Step 1

Plug the SanDisk flash drive into a USB port on the PC. Go to "start," "My Computer" and "Devices."

Step 2

Double-click on the icon of the flash drive that is beneath the "Removable devices & storage" tab at the center of the window that appears.

Step 3

Select the file that you want to erase from the list of choices that appear beneath the icon of the flash drive.

Step 4

Right-click on the file with the mouse. Select "Delete" from the pop-up menu.

Step 5

Right-click on the icon of the SanDisk flash drive. Select "Eject" from the pop-up menu. Close the window by clicking the red "X" in the upper right corner. Remove the flash drive from the USB port of the PC.
