How to Fix Registry Errors in Vista

by Daniel Hatter

The Windows registry is one of the most important parts of Microsoft operating systems. Unfortunately, users who install and/or uninstall software often add junk entries to their registry. A Windows Vista registry overloaded with junk entries or errors can cause the computer to slow down. If you're experiencing slow performance, download and run the free CCleaner program which will fix registry errors and remove junk entries.

1

Visit the Piriform download Web page for CCleaner. Save the installation file to a convenient location on your hard drive, and double-click on it to initialize the installation.

2

Follow the onscreen prompts to install CCleaner. Double-click on the program shortcut the installation created on your desktop to run the program. Confirm the operation if prompted.

3

Click on the "Registry" side tab, and click the "Scan for Issues" button. CCleaner will now scan your registry for any errors or inconsistencies.

4

Click "Fix selected issues" once the scan is complete. An onscreen box will pop up, prompting you to back up your registry. Click "Yes" to back it up, and save the backup to a convenient location on your computer.

5

Click "Fix All Selected Issues." CCleaner will now fix all the registry errors it found in your computer.
