How to Fix a Computer Screen With Huge Icons

by David Harris

The Windows operating system allows you to size your desktop icons from small to very large to accommodate the needs of different users. You may accidentally hit some combination of buttons that enlarges your icons. Reducing the size of your icons is very easy and will take only a minute or two.

Windows XP

Right-click anywhere on the desktop.

Select "Properties" in the box that opens up.

Select the "Appearance Tab" at the top of the "Properties" box.

Click on the "Advanced" button.

Select "Icon" in the drop-down box called "Item."

Adjust the icon size. The default size is 32 x 32 pixels.

Windows 7

Right-click on the desktop.

Select "View."

Choose medium or small icons to reduce the size.
