How to Download Free Windows XP Themes

by Kefa Olang

Windows XP themes change the appearance of your system and make it more colorful and exciting. Themes consist of background images, icons, and different sounds. They come in a variety of style and genres including comics, abstract, movies and music. Although Windows XP comes with a variety of default themes, you can download free themes and change your system's look if you are looking for something different.

1

Go to a free theme downloading website such as themexp.org, xpthemes.com, or systemtheme.com (see Resources) . Select the theme that you want to download and click "Download." When prompted, click "Save" and select the folder that you want to save the theme to on your computer.

2

Right-click your desktop and click "Properties" from the pop-up menu. This launches the "Display Properties" dialog box.

3

Click the "Themes" tab on the dialog box. You should see the "Theme" box. Click the drop-down arrow next to the theme box, and then click "Browse." Select the folder that you saved the theme you downloaded, and then select the theme. Click "OK" to select it. The theme is uploaded to the "Themes" box. Click "Apply" to save the changes and enable the theme that you downloaded.
