How to Download a Vimeo Video With a Mac

by Andrew Schrader

Vimeo.com is one of the most popular streaming video sites on the Web, offering high-definition playback and detailed sharing options to establish a community of filmmakers and Web content providers. One networking tool Vimeo provides is the ability to download videos straight to your computer in the format the movie was uploaded. This function, however, is only applicable when the uploader has authorized the download feature. Downloading an authorized video on a Mac is an easy process after you have established a Vimeo account.

Visit Vimeo.com and click the "Join" or "Sign Up" button on the right side of the screen. Register for the basic Vimeo features, free of charge. Fill out the registration fields as prompted, accept the terms of use and click "Join Vimeo."

Navigate to the video you want to download. Scroll down to the About This Video section on the right side of the screen and locate the "Download This Video" icon.

Click the "Download This Video" link to automatically begin a download. If the link sends you to a new tab or window instead of downloading, exit out and return to the video's page. Right-click or press "Ctrl" and click "Download This Video" and select "Save Link As" to enter a pop-up Save window. Name your file and choose a location to save to. Click "Save" to download and save the file to your computer.
