The "Hi-Speed USB Host Controller" is the part of the computer that enables the use of USB 2.0. USB 2.0 offers a huge speed advantage over USB 1.0/1.1, upgrading transfer speed from 12 mbps to 480 mbps. Without the Hi-Speed USB Host Controller installed, a computer will only be able to transfer data at USB 1.0/1.1 speeds even if the ports are USB 2.0. Some hardware device drivers are found via a manufacturer's website, but USB 2.0 drivers are included in Windows Update, which makes them very easy to upgrade.

Downloading a Hi-Speed USB Host Controller

Open the "Start" menu and right click on "My Computer" (you may also right click on the "My Computer" icon if it is on your desktop). Click on the "Hardware" tab, then click the "Device Manager" button.

Scroll down near the bottom of the list and open up "Universal Serial Bus controllers." Right click on one of your USB 1.0/1.1 devices and select "Update Driver." Windows should find and install any USB 2.0 drivers for your system.

If the previous step does not work, make sure your USB 2.0 devices are properly plugged in and then start "Windows Update." Choose the "Express Install" option and then download any updates that are found. If your system is missing USB 2.0 drivers, they should be included in the list of downloaded files.
