How to View Doc Files

The DOC file is a common file to see on a home computer. It is a text document written in the Microsoft Word program. It can be viewed with a variety of programs, the most common of which is Microsoft Word, a part of the Microsoft Office suite of applications. Other applications that can be used to view the DOC file include the Open Office Writer, which is a free alternative to Microsoft Word, and the Microsoft Document Viewer.

If none of the indicated programs are installed on your computer, choose your preferred program and install it. If the programs are installed, skip to Step 2.

Open one of the suggested programs. A new window should open.

Go up to the toolbar at the top of the new window and click the "File" button.

A menu will drop down. click the "Open" option in the menu.

A new box will open up. Navigate to the folder where the file you wish to view is located.

Select the file and click the "Open" button.

Your document should now be displayed in the original window.

Tip

  • check If, after following these steps, your document is not displayed, then it is possible that you need a more up-to-date version of your chosen program. Microsoft Office is available for purchase from Microsoft, but Open Office and the Microsoft Document Viewer are free for download.
