One of the annoying things about digital video is that there are so many different formats. Some popular video players can't play back certain formats, such as Apple Quicktime. This can make it difficult to view your media. However, with the right tools, converting between Apple's MP4 (Quicktime) format and Microsoft Windows' WMV (Windows Media Video) format is a simple operation.

Step 1

Download the Format Factory video converter (see Resources). This freeware program will enable you to convert your Apple Quicktime movies (MP4) to Windows video (WMV). Scroll down the page to read the features and then press the "Download" button. On the next page, select the server to download the software from and save the file to your computer.

Step 2

Install your video converter. Right-click on the zipped file you downloaded in the previous step and select "Extract All." When done, double-click on the extracted file and select the destination for your installation. Press "Install" to install the software.

Step 3

Convert your Quicktime movie to WMV. Open your newly installed software and select "All to WMV" from the left control pane. Press "Add File" to add your Quicktime movie to the conversion queue. Select your output folder and when ready, press "OK" to convert your Quicktime movie to WMV.
