How Do I Disable Biometric Fingerprint Access to My Laptop?

by David Clair

Biometric fingerprint access is a very effective way to secure and protect the information on your laptop computer. Many computer users find it more convenient than typing in a password to log in. However, there may be situations in which you may prefer to disable the biometric fingerprint access.

Disabling Biometric Fingerprint Access in the control panel

To access the biometric control panel, click the Windows start button. Select "Control Panel." Double-click the "Fingerprint Control Center." In the control center, uncheck "Replace windows logon with fingerprint protected logon." If there is an option called "Power On Security," uncheck that option. Close the Control Panel.

Disabling Biometric Fingerprint Reader in device manager

If your laptop does not have a biometric access control panel, you can disable the fingerprint reader from device manager. To open device manager, right-click "My Computer" and select "Properties." Select "Hardware" and click "Device Manager." Locate the device manager entry that says "Biometric Device." Right-click that entry and select "Disable." Close Device Manager and restart your computer. When you restart, your computer will no longer prompt for fingerprint access to log on.
