How to Delete a Hacked AOL Account

by Leigh Egan

AOL was once a popular Internet service provider that attracted millions of customers because of its easy-to-use browser and email applications. However, because of the simple interface and open platform, AOL has become a target for hackers, which can compromise your account by sending out spam email. Fortunately, AOL has organized simple steps for you to utilize in order to delete your hacked account.

Navigate to the AOL account login page. Note that if your account has been hacked, you will need to confirm your identity and choose a new password. Select "Forgot Password," then proceed to the next page. Input your username, followed by the string of security letters, then press "Next."

Enter the required information on the proceeding page, then continue to the next page, where you will be asked to answer your security question, along with your first and last name. Enter your information, then go to the following page. Change your password when prompted, then press "Continue."

Select "Manage My AOL Account" under "Service Options," and then press "Continue." Click "Cancel" on the next page. Read through the entire Terms of Service when cancelling, and keep in mind that you will not be able to retrieve your username again once you have canceled your account. Select your reason for cancellation, and then choose "Cancel Account."
