How to Defragment an HP Laptop

by Lindsay Howell

When a lot of files have been deleted, copied or moved from an HP laptop computer's hard drive, the hard drive will slow down. The Disk Defragmenter tool on the computer will clean up the hard drive so that the files are sorted better, ultimately speeding up the hard drive as a result. Depending on the hard drive, running Disk Defragmenter may take up to one hour to complete.

Click the "Start" button. Type the words "disk defragmenter" into the search box. Click "Disk Defragmenter" in the results.

Click to choose the HP laptop's hard drive. Click "Defragment Disk."

Click "Close" when a box appears stating that the defragmentation is complete.
