How to Deactivate a Verizon Line

by Seth Amery

With the many different service providers available, you may one day decide you want to switch to another provider. This is also true when you have a line with Verizon Wireless. Before you can switch over to another service provider, you will want to deactivate your line and service with Verizon. However, because you must be under a contract in order to have service with Verizon, you may be subject to a hefty fee for early termination.

Call Verizon at its toll-free number, 1-800-VERIZON (1-800-837-4966), Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. local time.

Confirm your phone number by pressing "1" on your keypad.

Navigate through the menus to talk to a representative. Press the appropriate keys when the recording prompts you.

Ask the representative to cancel your account.

Pay the early termination fee if necessary. Depending on whether you have an advanced device, you may be subject to one of two hefty fees; as of late 2010, these fees are $175 or $350.
