Using any number of free programs, you can convert an MP4 to MP3 format. MP4, or MPEG-4 Part 14, is a common audio/video format. The MP4 format is supported by most computer and portable media players. MP3, or MPEG-1 Audio Layer 3, is a common audio format and the standard for music audio. MP3 is support by all computer and portable media players. Converting a video MP4 to MP3 format will only convert the audio portion of the MP4 file.
