A Garmin nuvi GPS unit has a wide display that enables you to easily see maps and directions. You can also upload additional maps, waypoints and other data to its SD card. To upload data to a nuvi unit, you need to connect it to your computer with the supplied USB cable. Windows 7 is able to recognize the device and communicate with it by default.

1

Plug the mini USB connector of the USB cable into the mini USB port on the bottom of the Garmin nuvi unit.

2

Plug the other end of the USB cable into a free USB port on your computer. Windows 7 detects the Garmin nuvi device as an external storage device.

3

Click the Windows Start button and click "Computer" to open Windows Explorer.

4

Select the drive assigned by Windows to your GPS device from the left pane to view the contents of the GPS unit in the right pane.
