How to Combine Two Audio Files

by Edward Ha

Audio files can be saved in various formats, including the WAV format, MP3 format and the WMA format. To combine two audio files, they must be of the same format and must be compatible with a sound editing software. Audacity is a simple program that can be used to combine two audio files. WAV files are the most compatible with Audacity, but any can be converted to the WAV format using conversion programs that can be downloaded and used online.

1

Prepare two audio clips in the same format, preferably in the WAV format. If the audio file is in another format, convert it to WAV using a conversion program.

2

Launch Audacity and open a new project file.

3

Click the “File” menu and click “Open” to open an audio file.

4

Click the “Project” menu and click “Import Audio.” Select the other audio file. A new track will form in the project window.

5

Click the “Time Shift Tool,” a two-headed horizontal arrow on the top-left corner of the window.

6

Drag the audio tracks horizontally to place one audio track horizontally next to another.

7

Click the “Play” button and check if one audio track is placed correctly after another.

8

Click the “File” menu and click “Export as WAV” to export the combined audio track as a single WAV file.
