Adding a mobile number to the Yahoo Messenger application on your PC allows you to receive messages via SMS even if you are away from your computer. In order to change the number associated with your Yahoo Messenger account, you must first remove the original number from the Yahoo Messenger Preferences section. A verification code is sent to the new number to confirm that you are the owner; once verified, you can specify whether you want messages forwarded to the new number.

1

Open the Yahoo Messenger application on your computer and sign in to your account.

2

Select "Messenger" from the menu bar and then select "Preferences." Alternatively, use the "Ctrl-Shift-P" keyboard shortcut to access the preferences.

3

Select the "Mobile" category and then select "Edit Mobile Number." Select "Delete Number" and then click "Delete" to confirm that you want to remove the old number from Yahoo Messenger.

4

Close and reopen the Yahoo Messenger application for the changes you made to take effect.

5

Click the mobile phone icon just below your Yahoo Messenger username and select "Set up Mobile Phone."

6

Select your country from the drop-down list and then type the new mobile number you want to use.

7

Click "Continue" to send a verification code to the number that you have specified. Type the verification code in the input box, click "Next" and then click "Done" to add the new number.

Tip

  • check For mobile versions of Yahoo Messenger, open the Yahoo Messenger mobile page (link in Resources) and click the "Send me a link button." Type your mobile phone number and click "Text me a link" to receive a text message with installation and setup instructions for your device.
