Facebook groups are an effective medium through which users can have meaningful conversations about shared interests. Administrators of the group control the visibility of the group's conversations and its list of members. If your group's privacy settings have designated the group as Open or Closed, anyone can see that the group exists and who the members are, including the administrators and creators. If you wish to protect the anonymity of a group's admins or creators, you must set the group's privacy level to Secret.

Step 1

Log in to the Facebook account that has administrative privileges for the group.

Step 2

Click the name of the group in the "Groups" section on the left sidebar. If you're a member or administrator of many groups, you may first have to click "More" to see a complete list.

Step 3

Click the gear icon in the menu beneath the row of photos. A drop-down menu of settings options appears.

Step 4

Select "Edit Group Settings" from the drop-down menu.

Step 5

Click the radio button next to "Secret" in the "Privacy" section. Only members can see a secret group.

Step 6

Scroll to the bottom of the settings page and click the "Save" button to make your changes permanent.
