Most people use payphones only to call people, never to receive a phone call. However, it is possible to call a payphone back in most cases, provided you know the number. There are a couple of ways to get this number, and once you have it you will be able to call the payphone and talk to the person on the other line.

Ask the person calling you from the payphone to look for the number posted on the phone. Some payphones won't list this number, but many of them will, and it's the easiest way to obtain the phone number.

Check your caller ID or received calls list on your telephone or cell phone and check the number of the last incoming call. This will be necessary only if the payphone's number isn't listed on the payphone itself.

Dial 69 to find the number if you can't get it through Step 1 or Step 2. Dialing 69 will tell you the number of your last incoming call.

Dial the payphone number.
