How to Back Up an iPod in iTunes

by Matt McGew

A popular portable media player, Apple Inc.'s iPod allows users to listen to music, watch movies and play games. It also stores valuable data, such as media and information files. You can easily back up your iPod device through Apple's iTunes application. Backing up your iPod will create copies of the media and settings from your iPod device.

Attach the iPod data cable to the bottom of your iPod device. Connect the other end of the iPod data cable to an available USB port on your computer.

Open the iTunes program on your computer.

Right-click on your iPod device liked under the "Devices" subsection on the left-hand side of the iTunes window. Choose the "Back Up" option. ITunes will automatically create a backup for your iPod device.

Click the "Sync" button to sync your iPod with the iTunes program. As part of the sync process, all media files on your iPod are transferred to the iTune's library.
