How to Get Audiobooks Onto iPhoneby Lynn Burbeck
In addition to storing music, videos and podcasts, iPhone users can download and listen to audiobooks on their iPhones -- either by downloading them directly from iTunes, purchasing them from a third-party site or importing CD versions of audiobooks into iTunes. Although purchasing audiobooks directly from the iTunes app on your phone is the simplest method of obtaining audiobooks on your phone, it is not the most cost-effective method. Therefore, if the cost of audiobooks is a concern, you'll want to explore other options for obtaining them.
Purchase from iTunes
Press the iTunes app on your iPhone.
Select "More" in the lower right corner of the screen to access additional search options. Here you'll find the audiobooks selections available in iTunes. You can search for books by category or by popularity.
Browse through the audiobooks selections in iTunes. You can search for a title by name, or browse by category or popularity.
Press on the title you're interested in purchasing to read the synopsis, read customer reviews or listen to a preview.
Purchase an audiobook by pressing the "Buy" button and entering your iTunes username and password. The title will immediately download to your iPhone. Once downloaded, it will be available in the iPod section of your phone.
Audiobooks from Other Sources
Import the audiobook into iTunes on your computer. If you've purchased an audiobook in MP3 format, you can add the files to your iTunes library by selecting the "Add File to Library" option in the iTunes File menu. Alternatively, you can drag and drop the files directly into your iTunes library.
If the audiobooks are on CD, you'll need to open the albums in iTunes and copy the files to your iTunes library. .
Right click on the audiobook title in iTunes to make sure the audiobook is in the correct file format. This will ensure iTunes will recognize it as an audiobook and upload the files to the audiobook section of your iPhone.
In the menu that appears when you right-click on the title, scroll down and click on "Get Info." Click on the "Options" tab and change the "Media Kind" to audiobooks.
Connect your iPhone to your computer with your phone's USB cord. Make sure your phone is turned on or it will not be recognized by your computer.
Open iTunes. Once iTunes has recognized your device, it will appear in the left column under the heading "Devices."
Click on your device name to alter your iPhone settings, if necessary. These settings control how data is synced between your phone and your computer.
Got to the "File" menu and select "Sync iPod" to transfer the audiobook files from your computer to your iPhone. The uploaded files will now appear in the audiobook section of your phone.
