How to Find Archived Files

by Stephen Lilley

There are two main types of archived file formats: RAR and ZIP. If you have several different files you need to send to one location (or would simply like to keep these files in one place for storage purposes), you can add these files to a RAR or ZIP archive and accomplish your goals. If you want to locate these archived files on your computer, you can search for them by file extension using the Windows operating system's built-in "Search" feature.

Click "Start."

Click "Search."

Click "All Files or Folders."

Key in the file extension of the type of archived file you are attempting to locate (in quotation marks) into the "Search" box. This means that if you want to search for all of the ZIP archived files on your computer you would type "*.ZIP" into the "Search" field. If you want to search for all of the RAR archived files on your computer you would type "*.RAR" into the "Search" field. This will search for any files that match that specific extension, regardless of what the file is actually called.

Click "Search." This will return a list of all of the archived files on your computer.
