How to Add a New Audio Track in Audacity

by Edward Ha

Audacity is an audio editing program that is capable of editing two or more tracks simultaneously. When an Audacity project file is opened with the program, several tracks are displayed horizontally. You may want to add a new track to the project if you wish to add another layer of audio to the existing audio. When the resulting audio is played, sounds from all the tracks will play simultaneously.

1

Launch Audacity.

2

Open the project file to which you want to add a new audio track by clicking the “File” menu and clicking the “Open” option.

3

Click the “Project” menu and click the “New Audio Track” option. A new track should appear under the existing tracks.

Tip

  • check Using separate tracks to differentiate sounds can be a helpful way to edit audio tracks with multiple layers of sound.
