How to Add a Link to a Facebook Profile

by Sophie Southern

Facebook offers several ways to include links on profiles, either in your personal information or directly on a profile wall. When you add a link to your personal profile information, visibility will depend on your privacy settings. When you post a link to a Facebook profile wall, all of your friends and the person's friends will be able to see it. When posting links to Facebook, be sure to include the full URL if you want your links to be live.

Adding a Link to Your Profile Information

Navigate to Facebook's website and log in to your account. Click your name in the upper-left corner of your Facebook homepage to access your profile.

Click the "Edit Profile" button in the upper-right corner of your profile page.

Click the "Contact Information" link in the left menu of the "Edit Profile" page. Copy and paste the entire link, including the "http://," into the "Website" field.

Click the "Save Changes" button to save the link to your profile.

Click the "Basic Information" link to add a link to your "About Me" section. You can also add links into several fields of your "Philosophy" section. Links you add to your profile will appear under the "Info" heading on your profile page.

Posting a Link to a Facebook Profile Wall

Navigate to Facebook's website and log in to your account.

Type the name of the friend to find the profile you want to post a link to. You can also click the "Friends" link on the right of your Facebook homepage to view a list of your friends. Click your friend's name to go to his profile. Under the "Share" heading, click the "Link" link.

Copy the exact URL you want to post, including the "http://," and paste it into the field. Including the entire URL will allow your friend to click the link directly instead of copying and pasting it into a Web browser.

Click the "Attach" button. Use the arrows to choose a thumbnail for your link or check the "No Thumbnail" box if you don't want an image to appear with your link.

Type a message with your link into the "Say something about this link..." field. You can leave this blank if you want. Click the "Share" button to post your link to the profile wall. You can also use this method to post links to your own Facebook profile wall.
