How to Add Apps to the iPhone 4

by Lara Webster

From games to pedometers, social networking to television guides, apps on the iPhone 4 cover a range of functions. Downloading apps to your iPhone 4 takes just a few seconds and can be accomplished right from your device. Once you download an app, a backup will be saved to your computer the next time you sync.

1

Turn on your iPhone and make sure it is connected to the Internet. By default, your iPhone is connected to the 3G network as long as you are in an area with cell phone coverage. You can also connect to a nearby wireless Internet service that you have permission to use.

2

Tap on the blue "App Store" icon on your iPhone's home screen.

3

Browse apps by genre by tapping the "Categories" icon in the toolbar. If you are looking for a specific app, click "Search" and type in the name.

4

Download an app by tapping the icon to the right of its name, which will either state the price of the app or the word "Free." Tap the "Install" icon that appears next to free apps, and the "Buy Now" icon for paid apps.

5

Enter your Apple ID and password when prompted and tap "OK." Tap "Create New Apple ID" to set up an account, if you don't already have one (an Apple ID is required to finish the download process). The app will automatically download and appear on the last page of your home screen.

Tip

  • check Move a new app to the first page of your Apple home screen by placing your finger on it until all app icons start to jiggle. Then drag the app to the left until the page flips to the previous one. Release your finger to drop the app in a new place.
