When you subscribe to Internet service from Suddenlink, the company sends you a cable modem to connect to their network. You can have the company send a representative to your house to activate the cable modem or you can do it yourself. To activate the modem and begin surfing the Internet, your subscription to Suddenlink Internet service must be active and you must have an available USB or Ethernet port on your computer.

Step 1

Turn off the computer and unplug the power cord from the electrical outlet. Remove the cable modem's power cord from the electrical outlet.

Step 2

Insert one end of the coaxial cable into the coaxial port on the Suddenlink cable modem. Insert the other end into cable wall outlet.

Step 3

Plug the cable modem's power cord into the electrical wall outlet. Press the power switch on the modem to turn it on if it has one. Usually, the cable modem does not have a power switch. It may take up to five minutes for the modem to sync with the Suddenlink cable network.

Step 4

Insert one end of the Ethernet or USB cable into the Ethernet or USB port on the cable modem. Insert the other end of the Ethernet or USB cable into an open Ethernet or USB port on the computer.

Step 5

Plug the computer's power cord back into the electrical outlet and start it.

Step 6

Check the lights on the cable modem to verify the modem activation. The "Activity" light blinks continuously to represent the modem's connection to the Suddenlink network.
